Descripción

The Old Vicarage is a handsome and historic house which dates back to the mid 17th Century and was originally built by Barnabus Oley a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge who was an ardent royalist. The village school, which is named after him, was founded in 1670 and still holds a founder's day in the local church.

The Old Vicarage is a fine red brick house with a plain tiled roof and tall casement windows, two storeys to the front and three to the rear elevation which faces south. The hallway, with stairs to the upper and lower floors, leads through a divided chimney into a rear hall with doors left and right leading into a well proportioned drawing room, with open fireplace and a similarly proportioned study/library. To the front is a sitting room which also connects with the drawing room. The current owners have, in recent times, renovated and converted a wing attached to the eastern end and installed a staircase which leads down to the oak floored kitchen breakfast room which has two sets of French doors leading into the gardens. There is an Aga set within a chimney breast to one end of the kitchen area and a range of units with a central island. To either side of the chimney breast are a large walk-in pantry and scullery. A dining room on this level has exposed brick flooring and beyond this is an area which can be used either as further accommodation or as an independent annexe (with a large bedroom, a reception room, kitchen and a bathroom). There is ample bedroom accommodation at first floor level which includes a master bedroom with a large ensuite bathroom (also accessed from the adjacent landing), a guest bedroom over the kitchen with an ensuite shower, four other bedrooms and a separate family bathroom.

Overall the accommodation features tall ceilings, inward opening casement windows, many open fireplaces and interesting ceiling beams with chamfered edges. The attached floor plans show the layout and dimensions in greater detail.

Outside
The house is secluded and set back behind a tall brick wall with mature lime trees. There is a large shingled parking area to one side with access to the workshop/store. Steps lead up to the canopied porch and the front door. Most of the grounds are to the rear, laid to lawn with a range of mature trees including some fruiting varieties and yews to the southern boundary. There is a fine outlook towards the adjacent church tower.

In all the site extends to approximately 0.70 acres.
